Event Description

This comprehensive course, adhering to CSA Standard CSA Z1210-17, equips workers with intermediate first aid skills to handle emergencies confidently and effectively, ensuring a safer work environment.

This course replaces the current Occupational First Aid Level 2 course. It is designed to meet the regulatory changes coming into effect on November 1, 2024.

The Intermediate First Aid course is a two-day (14-hour) program (excluding breaks) providing advanced lifesaving first aid skills to workers in the industry.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Conduct the Priority Action Approach
  • Understand the Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aid Attendant
  • Assess and Manage Soft Tissue Injuries
  • Make Appropriate Medical Referral Decisions
  • Identify and Manage Airway Emergencies
  • Identify and Manage Breathing Emergencies
  • Identify and Manage Circulatory Emergencies
  • Perform CPR and Use an AED
  • Identify and Manage Bleeding Emergencies
  • Identify and Manage Common Medical Emergencies
  • Identify the Rapid Transport Category
  • Manage Responsive and Unresponsive Patients
  • Conduct a Secondary Survey
  • Identify and Manage a Patient in Shock
  • Identify and Manage Environmental Injuries
  • Identify and Manage Minor Injuries
  • Identify and Manage Burn Injuries
  • Identify and Manage Musculoskeletal Injuries
  • Identify Critical Incident Stress

 Important Notes:

  • Class starts at 8:00 AM SHARP each day! No late participants will be admitted. 
  • Photo ID is required to receive a certificate.

Certification Information

  • To qualify for certification, candidates must participate in a minimum of 14 hours of training and successfully complete the course objectives as taught and evaluated by a person authorized by the Workers’ Compensation Board of B.C. (WorkSafeBC).
  • Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of completion of the basic training course.
  • To renew a basic certificate, a candidate must successfully retake the basic course.

 

Delivery Method: Classroom Session 

Course Fee Includes: All books and materials, and upon completion a certificate valid for 3 years. 

Prerequisites

Candidates must be able to understand and perform the first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks.

No previous first aid training is required

By Car:
  • From Vancouver: Take exit 27 from Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 E. 
  • From Fraser Valley:  Take exit 27 from Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 W. 

By Transit:

  • By Bus: The nearest bus stop is Lougheed Hwy @ Boundary Loop (Stop ID: 50901).  From the bus stop, the training facility is about a 6-minute walk.
  • By Sky Train: The nearest sky train station is Gilmore Station.  From the station, the training facility is about an 11-minute walk. 
Cancellation &
Refund Policy

COURSE REGISTRATION CANCELLATIONS, TRANSFERS & REFUNDS:

 

Cancellations received at least 10 business days prior to the course will result in a full refund.

 

Cancellations received less than 10 business days but more than 5 full business days prior to the course are subject to an administration fee of $100 per day for full and half-day seminars, or $25 for breakfast sessions.

 

Registrants who do not show up for a course, and/or who do not notify CITN at least 5 full business days prior to the course date will be assessed the full cost of the course. There will be no refunds or credits in this case.

 

Substitution of attendees is permitted up to and including the day of the course.

 

COURSE CANCELLATION BY CITN:

 

CITN may have to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, in which case CITN’s liability will be limited to a refund of the registration fee.
