A Flagger, or Traffic Control Person (TCP), is responsible to provide safe traffic control for motorists, pedestrians, and workers. ProSafe offers the official certification program set by the BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA)

Key Contents

  • Roles & responsibilities of TCPs, employers & supervisors
  • Regulations & standards, including those set out by the Ministry of Transportation, WorkSafeBC & the Motor Vehicle Act
  • Traffic control equipment & devices, including personal protective equipment
  • Setting up, maintaining & removing work zones
  • Working around equipment
  • Basic & advanced traffic control skills

Course Duration

  • 2 days (8 hours, both days)
  • The first day is spent in the classroom understanding the rules and regulations of traffic control. The second day reviews more theory, and then a written exam. After the
    exam, participants begin the practical portion of the program outside

Language

  • English (good command of spoken and written English is required)
  • It is recommended that participants registering have an English Level greater than or equivalent to Grade 10 English (British Columbia School System)
  • Translators are not permitted 

Course Requirements

TCPs should be physically and mentally prepared to do the required work, and should exhibit these characteristics:

  • good vision
  • good hearing
  • alertness and mature judgment
  • intelligence and common sense
  • pleasant, cooperative disposition
  • sense of responsibility for the safety of workers and the public


What to Bring

  • Photo ID
  • CSA approved steel-toed boots with a minimum 6-inch ankle protection
  • High Visible Vest, Must be Class 2 (Will be provided by the instructor if you do not have one) 
  • Clothing to protect you from the weather
  • Work gloves are recommended
  • Pen and highlighter

Certificate

To successfully complete the course, the participant must pass both the open book written exam (40 multiple choice & True/False questions) with a minimum of 80% & the practical evaluation with 100%.  A strong command of English is required to be successful.

Upon successful completion of the exam, you will be issued a temporary certificate by the invigilator, which is valid for 3 months from date of issue. The temporary certificate will be followed within 6-8 weeks by a new permanent photo ID card. Records of completion are provided by the BCCSA and are valid for 3 years.

Cancellation &
Refund Policy

COURSE REGISTRATION CANCELLATIONS, TRANSFERS & REFUNDS:

Cancellations received at least 14 business days prior to the course will result in a full refund.

Cancellations received less than 14 business days but more than 7 full business days prior to the course are subject to an administration fee of $100 per day for full and half-day seminars, or $25 for breakfast sessions.

Registrants who do not show up for a course, and/or who do not notify BCRB at least 7 full business days prior to the course date will be assessed the full cost of the course. There will be no refunds or credits in this case.

Substitution of attendees is permitted up to and including the day of the course.

 

COURSE CANCELLATION BY BCRB:

BCRB may have to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, in which case BCRB's liability will be limited to a refund of the registration fee.
