Description
Pain is already part of the work.
Our trades Toolbox Talks guide makes it easier to talk about pain early, practically and respectfully as part of safety training. Combined with our Toolbox Talks videos, we provide simple strategies to manage pain on and off the job.
We know employers, supervisors and safety teams are already carrying a lot. You are managing timelines, reducing risk, supporting workers and trying to keep people safe in a sector where pain is often treated as just part of the job.
Pain BC’s Trades and Pain Program created a new Toolbox Talks Facilitator's Guide and videos to help make conversations about pain easier to bring into safety meetings. These were developed hand-in-hand with trades workers and leaders.
The talks are short, practical and designed to be used by supervisors or safety leads without needing medical or chronic pain expertise. Each topic includes about 10 minutes of content, a facilitator script, video, infographic and discussion prompts. The guide also notes that the talks can be used in order, as a safety topic of the day, week or month or one goal at a time when schedules are tight.
The full resource includes eight short Toolbox Talks, Videos and Infographics:
1. Acute vs. chronic pain
2. Preventing chronic pain
3. Pain is bio-psycho-social
4. Understanding stress and chronic pain
5. Social support in pain management
6. Lifestyle habits for pain management
7. Medication and other pain management tools
8. How thinking can affect pain
